One Small Action: Free internet search engine making a positive difference
Eco Weekend 2023
Community Climate Action for Everyone
We very much hope that you, your family & friends will wish to come along to the first ever Eco Weekend at St James’ Church, Shere!
We are sure that there is something for everyone - from the Free Green Cinema on the Saturday evening (ticket link above), to the inspiring series of short talks, environmental group stalls, and the Eco Kids Zone!
Enjoy and take part in the Swap Stall (bring & take) - sharing home produce and pre-loved clothing - with no exchange of money. You will be contributing whether you bring, bring and take, or just wish to leave with a few useful things... Sustainability through re-use, and reducing all our living costs are the aim!
The cafe will offer refreshments with the chance to chat over delicious cakes and tea, meet like-minded people and find ways to get involved with local environmental action.
We hope to see you there!
Shere School - Achieve Eco-Schools Green Flag
The work of all the school children - and the message is clear!
After an action packed year of inspiring and fun environmental activity at Shere Infant School, all the children and adults involved can be very proud to have had their work recognised with an Eco-Schools Green Flag with the highest level - Distinction. So look out for the Green Flag flying with pride in September!
The globally recognised Eco-Schools programme is an amazing network, supporting schools to empower, inspire and lead on environmental action - with the whole process led by young people, from Infant to Secondary settings.
By taking their positive message home to family who care most for their future, we think they are achieving more than is possible by many an adult-led environmental action group!
You can find out more about the achievements and journey of Shere Infant School on their Eco Notice Board, hosted at the moment by T.E until the school website is relaunched soon.
T.E are starting to connect up local schools via our Eco-Schools Forum Page, where ideas, resources and support can be shared.
We are also starting a small voluntary team to support teachers and parents with environmental action in other local schools. If you feel you may be able to contribute some of your time, energy and ideas, please do get in touch for a chat - you really could make a big difference!
One Small Action : Search your way to a forest!
Ecosia is an internet search engine that is powered by Bing – and returns 100% of its profits to planting trees.
Since forming, Ecosia say they have planted 179 million trees – currently one tree every 1.3 seconds!
It is easy to replace Ecosia as your default search engine (see this link) and once set up you can see your personal tree planting impact with a running total on the search bar!
Ecosia say they are committed to being a privacy-friendly search engine. Searches are encrypted and not stored permanently, nor is data sold to third-party advertisers. The company states in its privacy policy that it does not create personal profiles based on search history or use external tracking tools like Google Analytics. (Source- Wikipedia)
To find out more, this blog post from Ecosia is worth a read and explains their aims, ethos and achievements.
We think changing to Ecosia search engine is a great way to make a positive difference with very little effort and hope you will try it out!
If you get on with Ecosia how about suggesting to family, friends and at work to lead to even more trees being planted?!
Join the T.E Team!

We meet regularly in person where new people are warmly welcomed, and also collaborate in smaller working groups and on our own.
There is no commitment to any time and you can dip in and out as life allows.
